Buying In--The Secret Dialogue Between What We Buy and Who We Are. This is no flashy, high-concept title, just a brief and well-crafted explanation of an interesting idea. Of course, it helps that the author already has a reputation for delivering thoughtful and substantial coverage of emerging ideas in the New York Times Magazine and the online magazine Slate. Sounds like a good book to discuss. Materialism is part of our culture but how we buy stuff says so much about us.
