Great reference and I like the progression, but real value of the post is how it sets a structure for the comments. The comments is what is the real strength of the post. Fabulous armchair analyses. Really re-awakened my dormant interest in american history and political science that I inherited from my Dad. Looks like I have another pile of books to read.
What an incredible fall in vision, I am so much more impressed with dead Presidents than the ones that are still with us.
Their legacy and breath of understanding seemed so more far reaching and universal truths.
We are in trouble!
Steve, you're right. Those comments really did nicely complement the presidential quotes. Daniella, I think the vision and genius of some of the earlier (now dead) presidents have become part of our heritage and even our civic muscle memory, and so we somehow always seem to find a way as a country to get back to our roots after periodic bouts of madness like the one we're now in. That's my glass half full.
A pocket full of dead presidents, a dais with a bunch of live presidents...pick your poison.
